This involved introducing numerous new characters, including Marshall-Green&#8217;s Pete &#8220;Cal&#8221; Calvin, Kayce&#8217;s team leader who moved to Montana to be closer to his daughter. As the series progressed, he went through many changes himself, including a surprise cancer diagnosis late into the season.<\/p>\n<p> Speaking with Perri Nemiroff on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=P4NDsUl7l2o\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Collider Ladies Night<\/em><\/a>, Marshall-Green explained how Cal&#8217;s character changes are going to be extremely important to <em>Marshals <\/em>season 2, while also teasing what to expect from the large-scale set pieces the show is most known for. The actor began by recapping Cal&#8217;s pancoast tumor, explaining the character&#8217;s experience pulled from that of a creator on the show. He also teased a number of major set pieces that will include plenty of action, but emphasized how character-building would be a core part of the show&#8217;s focus for season 2:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>What you learn about Cal in season 1 is absolutely going to come into effect, which is his cancer diagnosis. It&#8217;s based on a creator&#8217;s real story, one of the creators real stories. So we&#8217;re going to go after it and we&#8217;re still in the middle of it. And I couldn&#8217;t tell you, to be completely honest. Those kinds of things I don&#8217;t want to know. Just want to live it human. It&#8217;s the best part about TV. It&#8217;s the closest out of all the mediums to life, which is you don&#8217;t know what you&#8217;re getting handed next. But it&#8217;s a lot more of the same when it comes to the massive amounts of set pieces, action balanced with character. A lot of character.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When asked about his relationship with other characters in season 2, Marshall-Green explained that Cal would be wrestling with himself more than any other character in the show. He explained how, despite the harshness that he&#8217;s expressed in his personality, <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/marshals-season-2-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Marshals <\/em>season 2<\/a> will deal with more humanization and &#8220;<em>softening those edges,<\/em>&#8221; making him understand that he&#8217;s just one part of his larger team. This seems like it&#8217;ll transpire though a mixture of dealing with his cancer diagnosis, alongside the new threats the team will need to face:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I mean, to be completely honest, the one relationship that I&#8217;m really looking forward to is him with himself. He has a lot of pride built in. He&#8217;s a soldier. I&#8217;m looking forward to him being kind of humbled by his experience. He can crack whips and be very demanding of his team, and somewhat hard around the edges. But I&#8217;m looking forward to softening those edges with him, and like him realizing he&#8217;s not mortal. He&#8217;s not that soldier any longer. And so I think if anything, and I know that it sounds like just hoo-ha-ey and esoteric, but it is true. That&#8217;s the other thing that TV really affords is not just an evolution of character given their relationships with the rest of the ensemble, but also with themselves. While other <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/marshals-cbs-cast-characters\/\" target=\"_blank\">characters in <em>Marshals<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>have important connections to him, even if somewhat abrasive, he&#8217;s always been at the center of the action. His cancer diagnosis and the subsequent events he&#8217;s experienced in season 1 seem like they&#8217;ll serve as the basis for growth and change. Marshall-Green teases a softer side to the hardened soldier, which could redefine his character despite how militant and headstrong he&#8217;s shown himself to be thus far.<\/p>\n<p><em>Marshals <\/em>season 2 is set to premiere October 4, 2026 on CBS, and streaming the next day on Paramount+. Season 2 is expected to have a larger episode count as well, meaning there will be even more time for the show to explore Cal&#8217;s characterization amid the new threats the team faces. For now, there&#8217;s no indication as to what this means for him and what he&#8217;ll be doing moving forward, especially when it comes to the connections he has. But season 2 sounds like it&#8217;ll be mostly introspective as he evolves.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Marshals <\/strong><\/em>continues the ever-expanding world of <em>Yellowstone <\/em>following the end of the original series. Its return will be followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/dutton-ranch-season-2-confirmation-cast-story-updates\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Dutton Ranch <\/em>season 2<\/a> on Paramount+, alongside spinoffs <em>1944 <\/em>and <em>6666, <\/em>which are currently in development.
