It had to be unique,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cIt fell into the time when we started pulling back and saying, \u2018Only accept insanely great.\u2019 And it wasn\u2019t \u2018insanely great\u2019 at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Feige continued, \u201cWe didn\u2019t feel like, as we often do, you can have a good script and make it a great script through production. We didn\u2019t feel confident that we could do that on <em>Blade<\/em>, and we didn\u2019t want to do that to Mahershala and didn\u2019t want to do that to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the <em>Blade<\/em> reboot took so long that it was eclipsed by\u00a0Wesley\u00a0<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">Snipes\u2019s reprisal of his role as Blade in 2024\u2019s\u00a0<em>Deadpool &amp;<\/em><\/span><em>\u00a0Wolverine<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2019,\u00a0Marvel Studios announced Mahershala Ali would be starring in a Blade movie at San Diego Comic-Con. From there, the film saw multiple delays, beginning with Bassam Tariq <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2022\/09\/blade-director-bassam-tariq-marvel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dropping out as director<\/a> in September 2022.
