study<\/a> published in Oxford Medical Case Reports details the bizarre medical mystery.<\/p>\n<p>When the woman sought care, doctors noticed she had been experiencing chest pain for several months, with symptoms worsening after the wedding. <\/p>\n<p>Blood tests appeared to show a major heart attack caused by a blocked artery in the front-left portion of her heart, prompting doctors to \u201curgently\u201d refer her to the emergency department, the case study authors wrote.<\/p>\n<p>But there was one problem: no blockage could be found. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Further testing at the hospital showed her symptoms had seemingly resolved, and tests performed in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit showed \u201cthe results were surprisingly normal.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Perplexed, the doctors ordered an MRI, which finally revealed the culprit, a \u201cballooning\u201d on the left ventricle, pointing to an \u201cexceptionally rare and diagnostically challenging entity\u201d: Happy heart syndrome (HHS).<\/p>\n<p>A lesser-known form of Takotsubo syndrome (TTS), this condition occurs when an intense positive emotional experience \u2014 like a child\u2019s wedding \u2014 temporarily weakens the heart muscle, preventing it from pumping normally. The characteristic ballooning spotted on the woman\u2019s MRI happens when a sudden, severe surge of stress hormones, similar to adrenaline, stuns the heart muscle and causes it to change
