Regardless of which route you choose, Maul suggests keeping two things in mind: Make sure that your razor or trimmer is sharp and clean, since a blunt razor can lead to cutting, and dirty tools can lead to infections. You\u2019ll want to be sure you clean your trimmer (more on that below) and invest in a good bikini-line exfoliator.<\/p>\n<div style=\"outline:none\" id=\"use\" tabindex=\"-1\">\n<p><strong>How to use a bikini trimmer<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Before you even start trimming, <strong>skin prep<\/strong> is crucial to a smooth shave. Dull blades can tug and snag, increasing the risk of cuts or irritation,\u201d says Dr. King. She recommends using a guard on the trimmer to avoid nicks, razor burn, and uneven trimming. It\u2019s also key to prep (with a gentle exfoliator) and wash the skin before trimming to prevent ingrown hairs, and to thoroughly clean your tools to eliminate the risk of infection.<\/p>\n<div style=\"outline:none\" id=\"clean\" tabindex=\"-1\">\n<p><strong>What are the disadvantages of trimming pubic hair?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>There are no explicit disadvantages when trimming pubic hair, according to the dermatologists we spoke with. They just recommend keeping the trimmer clean to avoid the risk of infection. To do so, brush away stray hairs after use (either with the trimmer\u2019s included brush or a dry toothbrush). This prevents clogging (which can lead to razor bumps and skin irritation). If the trimmer is water-resistant, rinse it off, then wipe it down with a clean paper towel.<\/p>\n<div style=\"outline:none\" id=\"tips\" tabindex=\"-1\">\n<p><strong>Tips for bikini trimming if you have sensitive skin<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>If you have sensitive skin, Dr. Garshick has a few tips for mitigating irritation during shaving. \u201cStart by prepping the skin with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser prior to trimming to minimize any potential infection or irritation,\u201d she says. Then, it\u2019s important to <strong>wet the hairs<\/strong> so they are soft and damp which will make removal easier. \u201cUse a sharp, clean trimmer to reduce pulling, and avoid stretching the skin excessively or pressing the device too firmly. Apply a fragrance-free moisturizer after to help support the skin barrier,\u201d she says. Make sure you clean your trimmer after each use to avoid bacteria build-up.<\/p>\n<p>We researched expert-recommended and best-selling bikini trimmers before narrowing the list to 16 models tested by multiple contributors (including me).
