{"id":11800,"date":"2026-07-20T19:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-20T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=11800"},"modified":"2026-07-20T19:00:00","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T14:00:00","slug":"joe-scarborough-calls-out-loony-extremism-on-the-left","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=11800","title":{"rendered":"Joe Scarborough Calls Out &#8216;Loony&#8217; Extremism on the Left"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"post-body\">\n<p><em>Morning Joe<\/em> host <strong>Joe Scarborough<\/strong> warned Monday that Democrats risk repeating past political mistakes if they fail to distance themselves from \u201cextreme\u201d progressive voices, warning that some newly elected figures are promoting \u201cextraordinarily loony ideas\u201d that alienate mainstream voters.<\/p>\n<p>The remarks came as Scarborough discussed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/bd5f3950-3c80-41af-852e-fe736da603ac?syn-25a6b1a6=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a <em>Financial Times<\/em> column<\/a> by network contributor <strong>Ed Luce<\/strong> examining the growing influence of the Democratic Socialists of America following a string of primary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/politics\/cnns-harry-enten-breaks-down-stunning-rise-of-democratic-socialists-in-dem-party\/\">victories<\/a> in heavily Democratic districts.<\/p>\n<p>Reading from Luce\u2019s column, Scarborough highlighted the argument that while policies such as universal healthcare and higher taxes on the wealthy remain broadly popular, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is also perceived as \u201canti-American,\u201d giving President <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> political ammunition as he increasingly attacks Democrats by invoking communism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I get all of that,\u201d Scarborough said. \u201cI mean, there have been some extraordinarily loony ideas coming from some. Some of these people have actually won races and are going to be seated in Congress, most likely. Like, you know, getting rid of prisons, getting rid of cops, that didn\u2019t work well for Democrats before, didn\u2019t work well for American cities, either.<\/p>\n<p>He continued to argue public opinion had shifted back in favor of law enforcement: \u201cAmerica is getting safer again, in good part because both parties have come to the conclusion that police officers are a good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat said, there are extremes, and they are extremes,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd I guess my question is why the Democratic Party is so ill equipped to deal with those extremes, brush them off, and instead focus on candidates that are mainstream who are going to end up winning most of these primaries, and who are most likely going to take over the House and Senate?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Luce agreed that the Democratic establishment had struggled to channel anti-establishment energy now benefiting the DSA, but argued the movement\u2019s electoral successes remain concentrated in deep-blue districts with highly educated voters rather than the working-class coalition Democrats ultimately need in national elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe working class, the blue collars we\u2019re talking about, the African Americans in South Carolina, none of this really speaks to them,\u201d Luce said.<\/p>\n<p>The contributor pointed to former Maine candidate <strong>Graham Platner<\/strong> as an example: \u201cYou have highly educated sort of plutocratic socialists selecting a guy they claim is blue collar, turns out he isn\u2019t blue collar. Turns out he was grown in a vat, and you\u2019ve got this sort of Berkeley-Jacobin Magazine approach that is going to boomerang in their faces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scarborough compared the current moment to the crowded 2020 Democratic presidential primary, recalling candidates embracing progressive positions that he said failed to resonate with voters outside liberal strongholds.
