He was released from the hospital Friday and is recovering back in his native Pennsylvania. <\/p>\n<p>The alligator involved in the attack was later killed by Florida wildlife officials. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis tragic accident has not only changed Brodie\u2019s life but has also placed a tremendous burden on his family as they navigate the aftermath,\u201d his family say.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Brodie was hospitalized after being injured in the alligator attack.  <span class=\"credit\">Family Handout<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The attack happened at Florida\u2019s Nelson Fish Camp.  <span class=\"credit\">Google Maps<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cBrodie\u2019s passion for fishing, baseball and football have always brought him joy, and now he faces the challenge of adapting to his new circumstances while holding onto the things he loves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Florida is home to around 1.3 million gators \u2013 and the state has recorded more than 450 attacks since 1948.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But just over 30 of those have proved to be fatal, <a href=\"https:\/\/myfwc.com\/media\/zq0frjq0\/alligator-bites.pdf\">the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission revealed.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The day after Brodie was attacked, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/03\/us-news\/chance-allison-performed-cpr-on-brittany-clark-killed-by-florida-alligator-medical-report\/\">Florida hiker Brittany Clark <\/a>died after a gator chomped down on her arm and twisted into a death roll.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She died en-route to a hospital as a result of the \u201cmultiple blunt force injuries of the upper extremities\u201d she suffered.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clark was only swimming in around three feet of water in the Econlockhatchee River when she was attacked at Little Big Econ State Forest.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/pl30214220.effectivecpmnetwork.com\/9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<div id=\"container-9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\"><\/div>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A baseball-mad Pennsylvania schoolboy lost his hand in a savage alligator attack while on a fishing vacation \u2013 despite his dad\u2019s best efforts to free him moments before it performed a terrifying roll.
