The movie is estimated to finish the weekend U.S. run with upwards of $137 million, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/antoniopequenoiv\/2026\/07\/18\/the-odyssey-on-track-for-257-million-global-opening-and-nolans-biggest-launch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reported<\/a> by multiple ticket trackers. Globally, the film is on track to garner $264.1 million in its opening weekend, making back its $250 million production budget and more right out the gate.<\/p>\n<p>Critics have been as close to unanimous as they get in praise of <em>The Odyssey <\/em>with\u00a0the <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/07\/15\/movies\/the-odyssey-review.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">celebrating the film<\/a> as having \u201cpassion in every frame.\u201d <em>Consequence<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/07\/the-odyssey-review-christopher-nolan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called the movie<\/a> \u201cthe epic we truly need right now.\u201d <em>The Odyssey<\/em> reached a peak of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes before dipping to 95% as of Sunday morning, the highest percentage of all films by the Oscar-winning director.<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>By every measure the film is a success bound for Oscar recognition, and that achievement won\u2019t be because Nolan met an imaginary diversity quota as Musk posited in his campaign against the film.<\/p>\n<p>Since January, the tech mogul has been trashing Nolan\u2019s latest film, going as far promoting false claims about the Academy Awards\u2019 diversity standards for nominations and saying Nolan only \u201cwants to the awards\u201d after casting a Black actress as Helen and Elliot Page, who is transgender, as young soldier Sinon.
