{"id":10813,"date":"2026-07-19T20:09:59","date_gmt":"2026-07-19T15:09:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=10813"},"modified":"2026-07-19T20:09:59","modified_gmt":"2026-07-19T15:09:59","slug":"conservatives-admit-the-odyssey-was-really-really-good","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=10813","title":{"rendered":"Conservatives Admit The Odyssey Was &#8220;Really Really Good&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Ben-Shapiro.jpeg?quality=80\" \/><\/p>\n<div data-id=\"1612508\" data-title=\"Conservatives Admit The Odyssey Was \u201cReally Really Good\u201d\" data-url=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/07\/conservatives-admit-the-odyssey-was-really-really-good\/\" data-page=\"1\" data-pages=\"1\">\n<p>MAGA made Christopher Nolan\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/07\/the-odyssey-review-christopher-nolan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Odyssey<\/em><\/a> their latest culture war freak-out, ranting and raving for more months that the director\u2019s decision to cast trans actor Elliott Page as the Greek soldier Sinon and Lupita Nyong\u2019o to play Helen of Troy was more proof of Hollywood being out of touch with America. \u201cWhat will speak most is the fact that nobody is going to go see this woke movie, and it\u2019s going to be a box office bust, and they are going to make zero money on it,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=2011198436274308\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">declared<\/a> Newsmax commenter Katie Zacharia, while Elon Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/opinion\/the-odyssey-elon-musk-diversity-christopher-nolan-lupita-nyongo-1236747945\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">amplified<\/a> numerous rage-bait accounts on X that agreed with his assessment\u00a0 that Nolan had \u201cdesecrated\u201d Homer\u2019s original text.<\/p>\n<p>Well, in the end Nolan got the last laugh, as<em> The Odyssey<\/em> is projected to open with a massive $120 million debut at the US box office and boasts a 97% fan Pocornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes (which is 2 points high than its current 95% critical score).<\/p>\n<p>Even some prominent voices on the right can\u2019t help but fawn over the film:<\/p>\n<p>In a review on his YouTube channel, conservative commentator Ben Shapiro gave <em>The Odyssey<\/em> a 9\/10 rating, saying, \u201cIt\u2019s really really good. It\u2019s a terrific movie\u2026 The movie is a masterpiece \u2026 Nolan is great at what he does. The move looks beautiful. It\u2019s well shot. The images are incredible and iconic. There are images you can\u2019t get out of your head after having seen the film.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>He did have some gripes about the casting of Page (though, to his credit, did not deadname her like other consertatives), but chastised fellow conservatives who used it as justification not to see the film: \u201cI think there\u2019s a message here for conservatives. I know there are a lot of conservatives who are getting pre-whipped up about the film because [of Elliot Page] \u2026 It turns out that when people want to be entertained, they are willing to entertain even bad flaws in the tooth if it turns out that the smile is nice. It turns out that people are willing to undergo some bad politics and some bad decision-making if the film is great.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if conservatives want to be effective in the culture, you can\u2019t just label the entire piece of art bad because a decision in the art is bad,\u201d Spairo added. \u201cThis movie is going to make a fortune. It should make a fortune. It\u2019s creative. It\u2019s interesting. It\u2019s visually incredible. I think the broader theme of the movie is actually very much in line with many things that conservatives think. And if you let Elliot Page kill that for you, I think you\u2019re missing out on an incredible moviegoing experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Griff Jenkins, a weekend anchor on <em>Fox &amp; Friends<\/em>, was also effusive of <em>The Odyssey<\/em>, calling it \u201cthe best, it\u2019s amazing. It\u2019s [Christopher Nolan\u2019s] best work\u2026 I think every ninth grade English teacher across the country owes a debt of gratitude to him because all because all these young people are going to be Homermaxxing\u2026.
