File Photo by Andre Borger\/EPA-EFE<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p><span class=\"story_dl\">July 18 (UPI) &#8212;<\/span> Brazil&#8217;s top court on Saturday denied a request from former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/topic\/Jair-Bolsonaro\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Jair Bolsonaro\" class=\"tpstyle\">Jair Bolsonaro<\/a> to be visited by Argentinian President Javier Milei while under house arrest.<\/p>\n<p>The attempted visit by Milei, a political ally of the far-right Bolsonaro, was part of a campaign to drum up political support for the son of the former president, who is running against leftist President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/topic\/Luiz_Inacio_Lula_da_Silva\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva\" class=\"tpstyle\">Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>Bolsonaro is serving a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Top_News\/World-News\/2025\/11\/25\/bolsonaro-supreme-court-sentence\/1771764130763\/\" target=\"_blank\">27-year sentence for a coup attempt<\/a> but has been in his home in Brasilia since March due to his health condition.<\/p>\n<p>He was already barred from participating in national politics as part of his sentence.<\/p>\n<p>But Bolsonaro was placed under further restrictions on Friday for breaching <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Top_News\/World-News\/2026\/03\/27\/latam-brazil-Jair-Bolsonaro-house-arrest\/4791774627834\/\" target=\"_blank\">conditions of his house arrest<\/a>, after he wrote a political letter supporting his son&#8217;s candidature for president.<\/p>\n<p>The son, right-wing state Sen. Flavio Bolsonaro, then showed the endorsement letter during a live stream on social media.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/topic\/supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Supreme Court\" class=\"tpstyle\">Supreme Court<\/a> Justice Alexandre de Moraes barred Bolsonaro from receiving any visits of a &#8220;political-electoral&#8221; nature until after Brazil&#8217;s general elections in October.\n<\/p>\n<p>Bolsonaro&#8217;s defense lawyers argued in court he was unaware that his son would divulge his writing on social media, though the former president titled the text &#8220;letter to the Brazilian people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The letter &#8212; written and personally signed by Jair Messias Bolsonaro &#8212; was addressed &#8216;to the Brazilian people,&#8217; demonstrating that it was not of a private nature but rather intended for political and electoral purposes, with dissemination to the general public, using Flavio Nantes Bolsonaro as an intermediary, or in his own words, as his &#8216;spokesperson,'&#8221; Moraes wrote in his decision, <a href=\"https:\/\/g1.globo.com\/politica\/noticia\/2026\/07\/17\/moraes-suspende-visitas-a-bolsonaro-com-finalidade-politico-eleitoral-ate-o-termino-das-eleicoes-2026.ghtml\" target=\"_blank\">G1 reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The text of the &#8216;Letter to the Brazilian People,&#8217; therefore, clearly shows that Jair Messias Bolsonaro intended to communicate with his political supporters through his son&#8217;s social media accounts,&#8221; the justice added.<\/p>\n<p>Bolsonaro is now barred from receiving visits for 30 days, except by his medical and legal teams.<\/p>\n<p>He is also not allowed to be visited by his son for 90 days.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/pl30214220.effectivecpmnetwork.com\/9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<div id=\"container-9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\"><\/div>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who is serving a 27-year sentence for a coup attempt, was placed under further restrictions on Friday for breaching conditions of his house arrest.
