Adapting Adeyemi\u2019s best-selling 2018 debut novel, director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/gina-prince-bythewood\/\" id=\"auto-tag_gina-prince-bythewood_1\" data-tag=\"gina-prince-bythewood\">Gina Prince-Bythewood<\/a>\u2018s movie stars Thuso Mbedu, Tosin Cole, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/amandla-stenberg\/\" id=\"auto-tag_amandla-stenberg_1\" data-tag=\"amandla-stenberg\">Amandla Stenberg<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/damson-idris\/\" id=\"auto-tag_damson-idris_1\" data-tag=\"damson-idris\">Damson Idris<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/cynthia-erivo\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cynthia-erivo_1\" data-tag=\"cynthia-erivo\">Cynthia Erivo<\/a>, Lashana Lynch, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/regina-king\/\" id=\"auto-tag_regina-king_1\" data-tag=\"regina-king\">Regina King<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/idris-elba\/\" id=\"auto-tag_idris-elba_1\" data-tag=\"idris-elba\">Idris Elba<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/chiwetel-ejiofor\/\" id=\"auto-tag_chiwetel-ejiofor_1\" data-tag=\"chiwetel-ejiofor\">Chiwetel Ejiofor<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/viola-davis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_viola-davis_1\" data-tag=\"viola-davis\">Viola Davis<\/a>. Adeyemi serves as executive producer and is credited for writing the screenplay with Prince-Bythewood. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a TikTok video that she <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@tomi.adeyemi\/video\/7658660328879688973?lang=en\">posted<\/a> Saturday, Adeyemi included an screenshot of her message to unidentified recipients that read, \u201cThere is a reason I will not post anything about the adaptation of my work. That\u2019s all.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The video also included a screenshot of an apparent message that she sent to Stenberg, who plays Princess Amari in the movie. Adeyemi\u2019s message read, \u201cDo not ever use my name in an interview or video again. Do not text me. Do not call me.\u201d The image suggested that Adeyemi had blocked the actress who is known for roles in <em>The Hunger Games<\/em> and <em>The Hate U Give<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-tiktok wp-block-embed-tiktok\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the time stamp from the screenshot, the author sent her message in February 2025. This would have been around the time that Stenberg posted a video to TikTok in which she responded to colorism backlash surrounding her role and said that Adeyemi had supported her casting. That post has since been deleted. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adeyemi\u2019s Saturday post included another screenshot of messages to unidentified recipients, with the author writing, \u201cSince someone asked, I have not seen the film, and I will not watch it.\u201d She continued, \u201cIt\u2019s been painful holding this back from you all.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She added, \u201cAnd I\u2019m sorry if any of you thought I didn\u2019t care. I will always care about US. More than any glitter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When one fan posted in the TikTok comments about feeling sad regarding her post, the author replied, \u201cI do not mind anyone going to watch the film. I wrote this for us. I fought for us. I\u2019m just laying down my sword and officially separating my name because I can\u2019t keep being hurt and attacked behind the scenes.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the first novel in Adeyemi\u2019s <em>Legacy of Or\u00efsha<\/em> trilogy, <em>Children of Blood and Bone<\/em> is set in an African fantasy kingdom as a young woman (Mbedu) goes on a quest to reclaim the magic that was violently stolen from her people. She and her brother (Cole) team up with the daughter and son of the king to fight back against his brutal rule.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prince-Bythewood accompanied castmembers Stenberg, Mbedu, Idris, Ejiofor and\u00a0King at CinemaCon earlier this year\u00a0to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/children-of-blood-and-bone-trailer-adaptation-cinemacon-1236566295\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">debut the first footage<\/a> from <em>Children of Blood and Bone<\/em>.
